NEWS AND AWARDS

Ji Youn Lee’s poster presentation entitled “Micropatterned Co-Cultures for Directing Hepatic Differentiation of Embryonic Stem Cells“ was selected as a Presidential Poster of Distinction at the Liver Meeting in San Francisco, CA (Nov 2008).

Jun Yan won the second place award at the Annual Cancer Research Symposium 2008 for poster presentation entitled “Use of Microarraying and Microfabrication for Detection of Extracellular Metabolites” (Sept 2008)

Sunny Shah won the first place award at the UC Systemwide Bioengineering Symposium 2008. His poster presentation was entitled “Assembly of Micropatterned Co-Cultures on Conductive and Optically Transparent ITO Substrates” (July 2008)

Sunny Shah was awarded a highly competitive fellowship through the Designated Emphasis in Biotechnology at UC Davis.  The fellowship is going to provide for Sunny’s tuition and stipend for 1 year. (Oct 2008)

Prof. Giyoong Tae and a graduate student Mihye Kim joined our laboratory on a one year sabbatical leave from Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST).  Prof. Tae and Mihye are working on the development of heparin-based hydrogels for stem cell differentiation into hepatocytes. (Sept 2008)

David Dyer, an undergraduate researcher in our lab, has graduated and entered a graduate program in the Department of Bioengineering at UC Irvine. (Sept 2008)

He (James) Zhu graduated from our lab with Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering in August 2008 and entered medical school at UCSD.
