RESEARCH INTEREST

Dr. Jinyi Qi's research focuses on developing advanced signal and image processing techniques for molecular imaging. One emphasis is on developing statistically based image reconstruction methods for emission tomography. The research involves modeling imaging system response, developing appropriate statistical models, developing optimization algorithms, and analyzing image properties. Results have shown that his method achieves higher resolution than conventional approaches. Current projects in this area include image reconstruction for application specific PET cameras (e.g., microPET, breast PET, and prostate PET) and motion compensation. To improve the efficacy of molecular imaging and design novel cost-effective image systems, Dr. Qi is developing theoretical methods to evaluate image quality for diagnostic and quantitative tasks and using the results to optimize imaging systems.

The methods that have been developed in Dr. Qi's Lab are applicable to other imaging modalities, such as X-ray CT, MR, and optical imaging. He is interested in multi-modality imaging, especially image reconstruction with data fusion.

MAJOR RESEARCH INTEREST

Molecular imaging, signal and image processing, image reconstruction, image quality evaluation, system modeling and optimization, inverse problems.
