JOBS
Postdoctoral Researchers:
Two postdoctoral research positions are available immediately in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of California, Davis to study endothelial mechanobiology, inflammation and atherosclerosis. The candidates will investigate the mechanisms by which risk factors for cardiovascular disease exacerbate inflammatory atherogenesis in the context of vascular fluid mechanics. One position will focus on dyslipidemia associated with metabolic syndrome and the second on diabetes and/ or aging.
The candidates will have a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering or a closely related field and demonstrated authorship on peer-reviewed publications at the time of appointment. A good understanding of vascular endothelial mechanobiology and previous research experience with one of the above mentioned focus areas is highly desired. Previous experience with cell culture and a range of molecular protocols is also essential. The ideal candidate will have had experience with the following: in vitro flow models, microarray protocols and data analysis, qPCR, Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, FACS, ChIP assays, ELISA, and siRNA. The position will also involve some laboratory management responsibilities and supervision of laboratory staff and students. Therefore, strong communication and interpersonal skills are required.
The BME department is located within the new Genome Center which maintains core facilities in DNA technologies and Expression Analysis, Proteomics, Metabolomics and Bioinformatics. Also located in the Genome Center is the state-of-the-art Center for Molecular and Genomic Imaging. UC Davis is one of the nation's top public research universities, located in a small town, family-friendly environment and within a short drive of the San Francisco Bay Area and many Northern California recreational attractions such as Lake Tahoe, Napa Valley and Yosemite.
Interested individuals are encouraged to submit their application in pdf format to Dr. Anthony Passerini, Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the following email address only: CVMB.BME.UCD@gmail.com. Please include your curriculum vitae, a brief statement highlighting research interests and experience related to the position, and the contact information for a minimum of three professional references. Screening of applications will begin immediately and continue until the positions have been filled.

Staff Researchers:
A staff researcher is currently being recruited to coordinate human subject recruitment and sample collection. (SRAII)
Graduate Students:
Exceptional graduate students are accepted on an ongoing basis subject to funding limitations and other project constraints. There is a formal process for graduate student applications to the BME graduate group. Applications are reviewed annually and only those successfully applying to the program are considered. Please consult the website for requirements and guidelines.
Undergraduate Students:
Exceptional undergraduate students are occasionally accepted to do research. Interested students must have a good academic record and be prepared to commit to a minimum number of hours per week. Students are encouraged to prepare their application materials prior to contacting the PI--e.g. a resume highlighting their academic performance, interests, and any relevant experience or activities, academic transcript, examples of previous work, etc.
