OPPORTUNITIES FOR . . .

Graduate Students

We seek outstanding graduate students to join our research group. Opportunities vary by season and year. Interested students should contact Dr. Kuhl at any time. Or, contact any of our current graduate students to learn more about our group.

Undergraduate Students

We encourage motivated undergraduate students to join our research group. Undergraduate researchers work closely with a graduate mentor in conducting a research project suitable to their background. In exchange for their time, students typically receive academic credit; however, in some cases arrangements can be made for the student to be compensated with hourly pay. Full- and part-time opportunities often exist throughout the calendar year.

If you're an interested undergraduate, please feel welcome to talk to Professor Kuhl about what opportunities might be available. (We typically have many projects available.) You can also see what kinds of projects past undergraduates have worked on by visiting our Alumni page.

Postdoctoral Scholars

Postdoctoral Opportunity in Soft Matter –
X-ray/Neutron Reflectivity of Polymers

A postdoctoral position is available immediately for a highly motivated individual in the Chemical Engineering and Materials Science Department at University of California, Davis. The successful candidate will participate in ongoing work to study the structure and dynamics of polymer brushes in confined geometries and under applied shear stress using neutron reflectometry and molecular modeling. The primary focus of position is to develop novel algorithms to accurately model reflectivity data. The ideal candidate will have a very strong background in x-ray or neutron reflectometry, data analysis, and programming. Previous experience with polymer brushes or polymeric thin-films would be a significant asset. The position is fulltime and requires excellent communication skills (both verbal and written), a positive can-do attitude and the ability to bridge creatively experiment and theory. Compensation is competitive and includes health insurance benefits. The position is for 1 year and can be renewed for up to two additional years. US work authorization will be required.

Apply directly to Professor Tonya Kuhl at tlkuhl@ucdavis.edu. Complete applications will include a detailed CV including the names and contact information for at least 3 professional references. References should include current and former research advisors.
